Kumyang R&D Center's Research Areas

Kumyang R&D Center's research areas are chemical blowing agents, capsule blowing agents, titanium dioxide, and hydrazine derivatives.

Research on highly functional eco-friendly blowing agents that are the basis of Kumyang
R&D in Blowing Agents

Since the founding of the R&D Center in 1985, we have been striving to improve the functions of blowing agents continuously. We will continue to focus on research to develop eco-friendly, high-functional blowing agents suitable for the needs of the times and users.

Thermally Expandable High-Functional Special Blowing Agents
R&D in Capsule Blowing Agents

Capsule foaming agents are thermally expandable physical blowing agents. They show beautiful and smooth surface of the foam, and the embossed surface is clear, compared to general decomposition chemical blowing agents. They are highly functional special blowing agents that can efficiently and easily process thin foams such as screen wallpaper. We are conducting research to improve the process of existing products, develop new synthesis methods, and diversify products by use.

The Most Common White Pigment
R&D in Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide is bright white substance with high refractive index and excellent covering capacity and opacity. It gives whiteness and covering capacity to paints, coatings, plastics, paper, ink, food products, medicines, and most toothpastes. Since dispersibility with resins and sunlight and weather resistance are important factors that determine the quality level, we are conducting research to improve products and diversify products that show excellent physical properties such as whiteness, covering capacity and opacity even under various conditions.

As ultra-lightweight new materials with corrosion resistance
R&D in Magnesium Alloys

As a new material R&D initiative, we are conducting research on the development of ultra-lightweight alloy materials with rare earth added to magnesium and high physical properties.

As ultra-lightweight new materials with corrosion resistance and flame retardant properties, they can be applied to mobility components, such as motor vehicles, high-speed trains and aircraft, and can be effective in reducing carbon emissions and improving driving range of vehicles.

Hydrogen Fuel Cells, Kumyang's New Growth Business
R&D in Hydrogen Fuel Cells

Hydrogen fuel cells that produce electricity and thermal energy through the electrochemical reaction between hydrogen fuel and oxygen in the air are environmentally friendly as they are free from air and noise pollutions, and CO2 emissions (when using green hydrogen). They can be employed in overall mobility for power generation and transportation. We are conducting research on the application of metal nanoparticle catalysts such as technologies for manufacturing ultrasmall nanoparticles and loading nanometal particles.
