A mid-sized company based in Busan donated a large amount of scholarships to local universities to foster future talent in the high-tech industry.

On the 23rd, Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) held a ceremony to deliver KRW 1 billion in development funds for Kumyang Co., Ltd. (Chairman Ryu Kwang-jy, Gamjeon-dong, Sasang-gu, Busan) at the president's office on the third floor of the university headquarters.

After delivering 200 million won to President Jang Young-soo on the same day, Chairman Ryu Kwang-jy of Kumyang Co., Ltd. decided to donate a total of 1 billion won to Pukyong National University for five years, 200 million won every year.

Chairman Ryu said, "I thought it was most important to cultivate competent human resources for the development and growth of the secondary battery sector, which is drawing attention as a high-tech industry in the future," adding, "I hope this development fund will help local young people grow into active human resources in the future secondary battery sector."

Founded in 1955, Kumyang Co., Ltd. is a local company and a global comprehensive chemical material company with overseas subsidiaries in the United States and China, accounting for more than 30% of the global foaming agent market. Recently, the company has intensively invested in the secondary battery sector as a new growth engine, such as expanding secondary battery material lines, and expanded support to promising universities in the region. Pukyong National University plans to use the power generation fund for scholarships for students in secondary battery-related departments at engineering colleges.

The donation is the result of building trust between professors at Pukyong National University's College of Engineering and Kumyang Co., Ltd. by conducting research cooperation for a long time to secure advanced core technologies. In particular, Pukyong National University completely reorganized its academic organization last year, focusing on high-tech industries such as convergence studies, and laid the foundation for fostering industry-friendly future talent, which is welcomed by local and industrial sectors, including Gwangyang Co., Ltd.

Following the delivery of the power generation fund, Pukyong National University's College of Technology and Kumyang Co., Ltd. signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement to strengthen the technology cooperation network, and expanded cooperation by training secondary battery experts, research and development of secondary battery and carrying out industry-academic cooperation projects.
